A remarkable mens glam rock black velvet suit tailored by Malcolm Hall in the 1970's.
Malcolm was an assistant designer and pattern maker for Ossie Clark and Alice Pollock 1968 to 1970 before launching his own label and becoming a mainstay of the glam rock and pop scene through the early 1970's. His designs were worn by Paul McCartney, Abba, The Rolling Stones and he even has a suit designed for Jimmy Page in the V&A museum. Take a look at our post about him Glam Style
We've been lucky enough to get hold of all his sample suits from the 1970's to 1990's. These would have been made for clients to choose the designs which Malcolm would then tailor to thier specifications. All fully finished and largely unworn. What an amazing find.
As they're samples all the womenswear is made to a standard size 8 (or occasionally 10) and the mens to a 38/40 chest
Here we have a mens suit in thick black velvet with extraodinary cross cut panels to the lapels. The trousers have a outsize waistband, 32" waist and the same zigzag finish to the pockets and the calves. A suit to get you noticed.
40" chest with a 32" waist.
