Product Description

We're delighted to be selling these quite remarkable chairs, unique and striking and with a great history.

Originally commissioned in 1969 for Darlington Town Hall council chambers there were only 60 ever made all individually numbered.

The building itself was something of a brutalist classic more info here http://www.somethingconcreteandmodern.co.uk/building/darlington-town-hall/

I've included an amazing picture of the chairs as they were originally in place, looking like SPECTRE headquarters, it's hard to believe this was a provincial UK town hall.

The chairs themselves are light cream leather, low and solid, with horseshoe of dark wood (possibly Sapele) forming the arms. The arms themselves are broad and flat, to facilitate taking notes during council meetings perhaps but now ideal for a glass of wine and snacks! It gets better, each arm lifts up to reveal a small storage space, yes, i'm thinking TV remote too!

On the back of each chair is the council crest 'Floreat Industria'  and did I mention they were individually numbered with a brass insert on the arm?

Overall condition is very good, with plenty of signs of use but no major issues. We have a limited number to sell and demand is expected to be high.
