Meakin Sol Horizon Serving Dishes
Alfred Meakin were one of the earliest UK potteries to introduce more modern styles in the 1950's in response to retro American influences.
Horizon is one of the shapes brought in around 1955 with Sol being a more generic name used by Meakin for many decades.
The set is a large serving plate 32cm x 25cm, two tureens 12cm high and 25cm at their widest, milk jug and sugar bowl plus an extra jug.
Blue and brown hand painted wavy lines give both a contemporary 1950's and, perhaps, a modern 30's feel.
My fave design detail with this set is that the tureen lids, lifting off at the sides rather than with a top handle, turn over to be extra serving dishes. Why didn't more people do that?!
Overall very good condition. Some browning to the interior of a tureen and the serving plate as pictured.
